Pass on the “Seeds of Greatness”

Pass on the “Seeds of Greatness”

I wanted to pass on this absolute gem of what I call universal wisdom. It was written by Mr. Denis Waitley the best-selling author, speaker, poet and lyricist. I read it on his ezine, and it is a keeper!

Timing and Change

Timing and Change

Unfortunately sometimes a change that we are working on will not produce the desired result that we want simply because of the timing. It does not mean that we should not work on the desired change because the timing might be wrong. In fact we might need to fail at the wrong time, so we can learn how to succeed at the right time.

Reappearance of the Do

Reappearance of the Do

Taekwon that is. Do is the-way. Tae is the foot, and kwon is the fist. These Korean words loosely translate to – the way of the foot and fist. The meaning of Taikwon-Do would be better explained by the great Grandmaster Suk Jun Kim, 9th Dan

“Taekwon-Do is a Korean unarmed martial art. It is not only kicking and punching but also a way of thinking and living. The main goal of Taekwon-Do is to achieve total mind and body control through training.”

But this article is about the reappearance of “the way” Why? When I was typing Grandmaster Kim’s words above an idea struck me very deeply. Specifically his words “a way of thinking and living.” For quite a number of years recently I have been working very hard to improve myself. And I have been slowly improving myself with improving my “way of thinking and living.” I believe the reappearance of Taekwon-Do in my life is to help me on my path to a better way of thinking and living.

Below are some of my personal Taekwon-Do web sites that I visit. These are the better ones.

TaekwonDo-Legacy

The origin, history, and legacy of the Taekwon-Do and it’s founder General Choi Hong Hi – a must go to site for Taekwon-Do practitioners.

S.J. Kim’s Taekwon-Do

Grandmaster Suk Jun Kim, 9th Dan

This is Grandmaster Kim’s school, the home of traditional Taekwondo and martial arts training in N.Y.C. Grandmaster Kim is also president of Taekwon-Do International.

TKD Tutor

TKD Tutor has lots and lots of good information for Taekwon-Do and martial arts practitioners.

Blue Cottage Taekwon-Do

This web site is a good source of ITF style Taekwon-Do information.

Rayners lane Taekwon-do Academy

Interesting Taekwon-Do website from the U.K., flashy web site but it has a lot of good articles and information.

The (Shamelessly) Unofficial Taekwondo Resource

This site is another good source of Taekwon-Do information.

Win-Win-Win Situation

A Win-Win-Win Situation

If I didn’t dislike long titles, I would have called this piece “A Win-Win-Win Situation or how I lost forty pounds by quitting cigarettes.” I know it sounds improbably – but it did happen – so hear me out. I am not out to sell anything. I am not an expert in tobacco addiction or weight loss. It has taken me a long time to learn what works for me in being smoke-free and weight healthier. Maybe this article will spark you into trying things that will work for you.

I tried many times to quit smoking cigarettes over the years, but my attempts wouldn’t last. I believe a major reason for my success was with a paradigm shift (how I envisioned quitting smoking would be) that I had before the last and final time I quit smoking.

My unsuccessful paradigm with quitting smoking was. (This is going to be a win-LoseLose situation. I will be healthy by quitting smoking, but it is going to be hard, it is going to be stressful, I’m going to gain weight, etc., etc.)

My successful paradigm with quitting smoking was. (This is going to be a WinWinWin situation. Not only will I be healthy by quitting smoking , but I will lose weight, I will be stronger, I will feel better, etc., etc.)

So my thinking was – smoke-free, loose weight, stronger, and feel better? It was a no-brainer, a done deal for me. So I started a little exercising before I stopped smoking. I started increasing my exercising the day after I quit smoking. I very gradually kept increasing my exercising little by little, week by week, and then I started calorie counting every day. I lost forty pounds in under a half year. I am not saying this was a “walk in the park’, but I don’t feel I sacrificed anything. It took work, but enjoyed the process, and I do feel so much better on many levels. This worked and is working for me. What will work for you?

* Consult your health care provider before engaging in

exercise and or a change of diet.

A Balance Between Getting It Right and Getting It Done

A Balance Between Getting It Right and Getting It Done

I have been slowing letting go of my “either or” type of thinking in regards to my work. I know there is no such thing as perfection when it comes to man made objects, but still, I want to “do it right.” I need to remind myself not to let my quest for quality transform into my quest for perfection – perfection being a road to trouble. It would sadden me deeply if I thought of all the times that I stopped or didn’t even start something because I thought that I might not “get it right.” Maybe by getting it done I am getting it right.

Detaching myself from the blog traffic outcome

Detaching/Blog Traffic

I can not be patient with patience. I need to work on being patient. Sometimes I have been disappointed with the amount of traffic that I have received to my blog. This is kind of or just downright silly considering that I started this blog a week ago. Obviously it will take time to build traffic.

With “looking for the good” in this situation, my strong desire for acceptance is forcing me to express myself through writing. I am pleasantly surprised with how much that I enjoy writing. I think this blog will be very therapeutic for me on several levels.

All in all – if the blog genie asked me, John, would you rather have one hundred a day thoughtful, intelligent visitors with a half-dozen comments or five hundred a day random visitors with no comments – I would say to the blog genie – send me the one hundred.

Here’s a little duality regarding my patience and impatience, being and becoming. I regularly listen to Brian Tracy’s “The Science of Positive Focus” so I can learn how to be what I want to be. I also regularly listen to Wayne Dyer’s “Change Your Thoughts – Change Your Life – Living the Wisdom of the Tao”, so I can learn how to just be.
